USA Today’s new list of the “10 best theme park restaurants in 2022” has a surprising pick in the No. 1 spot — and doesn’t include a single Disneyland eatery.
According to the list, the best theme park restaurant in America is Confisco Grille in Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando.
“This grill offers a menu influenced by Asian, Mediterranean, Greek and other cuisines, conveniently located at the Port of Entry at Islands of Adventure,” USA Today writes. “You’ll have trouble deciding between French onion soup and pad thai, pork belly banh mi or American burgers, sticky ribs and ahi tuna nachos, among other delicious options. This relaxed indoor setting is the perfect way to introduce global flavors to family members of all ages.”
Confisco Grille, which opened in 1999, features different specialities from around the world due to its spot in the park’s “Port of Entry” area. Its name comes from the “confiscated” decor stolen from across the park.
The USA Today restaurant ranking is a mixture of reader and expert choices. A team of experts chose 20 nominees, from which readers voted to set the top-10 ranking.
The only California restaurant to make the list is Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant at Knott’s Berry Farm. The restaurant is a worthy inclusion; it’s the reason the theme park exists. After Cordelia Knott’s fried chicken restaurant took off in 1934, her husband Walter began planning a faux ghost town for diners to enjoy while they waited for a table. That became the first land of Knott’s Berry Farm.
Disney had a fairly poor showing on the list, with only one restaurant making the top five. Universal had another pick at No. 5, Mythos Restaurant, bested by Dollywood’s Aunt Granny’s Restaurant, Trappers Smokehouse at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
