JACKSON, MI – It may not look like it, but all of the food at Craveable is vegan and good for you.
Craveable has been open since April and is run by Karen Slaughter, her husband Tom Slaughter, daughter Jordon Denslow and her fiancé Taylor Dancy. The whole family is vegan and was looking for a way to show off their love for cooking to the Jackson community, Karen said.
“We just wanted to show people that vegan food can taste good too,” Karen said.
While the food truck has not been running for long, business has been great, Jordon said. They have a family-vibe and love sharing their passion for food with the community.
The food truck prides itself on having in-house, plant-based food that everyone can enjoy, Jordon said. The menu is large and includes classic favorites such as burgers, loaded mac and cheese, loaded fries, tacos, apple crisp and more.
All the burgers are made from plants, including mushrooms, oats, a variety of beans and other items, Karen said. They also make their own sauces, such as ranch and sour cream, which are mainly cashew-based, she said.
“It’s made with healthy ingredients, but it doesn’t taste healthy,” Karen said.
The most popular item is the classic burger, Jordon said, which comes on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard and mayo. The loaded bacon ranch fries are also a big seller and come with bacon, mushrooms, green onions and house-made ranch.
