Italian Street Festival returns to Indianapolis

Because 1983, the historic catholic church in Fletcher Place has hosted the festival, reworking the region into an Italian village.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Indianapolis kicked off its once-a-year Italian Avenue Festival by supplying all the favorites like cannoli, spaghetti, ravioli and meatball sandwiches.

Volunteers spend months making ready and cooking.

“We make about 10,000 meatball sandwiches, about 7,000 cannoli and 71 cheesecakes,” claimed Lisa Meister, just one of the volunteers who has been doing work the competition because working day a single.  

Meister said it is a custom which is passed down from family to loved ones, providing Hoosiers a chance to indulge and understand about the Italian tradition.
