WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — New York City celebrity chefs and hot spots with impossible-to-get reservations usually get all the attention, but Eater NY claims Westchester County deserves a bit more respect when it comes to finding a great place to dine out.
Eater NY recently published Samantha Garbarini’s survey of the best reasons to head out of the city for dinner, “A Guide To Westchester County’s Top Restaurants.”
The guide gives much of the credit for Westchester’s restaurant renaissance to culinary innovations pioneered in the city.
“Westchester is often overshadowed by its neighbors, particularly when it comes to dining,” Garbarini wrote. “But the old stereotypes about the county’s restaurant scene — that it’s all white-tablecloth Italian restaurants, pizza joints, and delis — started changing years ago as trends spread north from the hottest NYC restaurants and chefs found a new audience appreciating their creativity.”
The guide lets city-dwellers in on a few well-kept secrets that those of us in the Hudson Valley have known for years. While it might soon be a little more crowded in your favorite local spots, remember our neighbors deserve sustenance when they’re away from the Upper East Side driving up property values in Westchester.
The list directs its readers to places they will feel at home, namely “fine-dining restaurants helmed by big-name New York City chefs,” including Dale Talde’s Goosefeather and Jean-George Vongerichten’s The Inn at Pound Ridge. Other spots on the list have legacies that could only be found in Westchester like Walter’s Hot Dogs in Mamaroneck, Johnny’s Pizzeria in Mount Vernon and Mariachi Mexico in Armonk.
The 15 restaurants that Eater NY selected for showing “how far the county’s dining scene has come and set the stage for its continued evolution” are conveniently ranked:
