Happy Friday — it’s almost Louisville Taco Week! The event returns April 4-10 with tacos for $2 each at participating locations across the city. Louisville seems to really love taco and burgers. Just a few months after the first location opened, a second Jaggers is coming to Louisville, too.
Here’s other news from the dining scene this week:
A $1,200 bourbon club — A premier bourbon club is opening soon in the East End. Watch Hill Proper has 300 memberships available starting at $1,200 per person, plus $900 in annual dues. Members get all kinds of perks, plus first-crack at barrel picks and reservations. But no worries if you’re not a member, you can still visit the club’s front bar and enjoy a limited menu.
4 downtown lunch restaurants — If you haven’t been to downtown Louisville lately, it’s hopping. People are headed back to the office and restaurants are open for lunch. Here are four places to try next time you’re there.
A family-style cafe — Kayrouz Cafe has been running since 1976 in St. Matthews and remains open, though with limited hours and a more limited menu due to lack of staff. But it’s as family as it comes: sometimes manager Madison Rhyne will make personal phone calls to regulars when their favorite dishes are being served as a weekly special.
Churchill Perk — This coffee shop isn’t open to the public, but is providing an amazing service: special education programming for senior students in JCPS’s Functional Mental Disabilities Program. Students are guided through every step of working in a small retail business and offered valuable person-to-person connection.
West End food delivery — Most food delivery platforms don’t deliver to Louisville’s West End. Business owner Tamika Bland is trying to meet that demand with a new app called Limitless, which will connect diners to restaurants like Garden Girl Foods, Seafood Lady and Chicago Jerk Tacos.
